Cosham Park Area

Settled Victorian and Edwardian residential area around a popular public park

The residential area surrounding Cosham Park, a well-maintained public green space on the western side of the district. Cosham Park has a children's playground, tennis courts, bowling green and open grass areas used for informal sports and dog walking. The park is bounded by mature trees and provides a welcome breathing space in what is otherwise a densely built-up part of Portsmouth. The surrounding streets are predominantly Victorian and Edwardian terraces, built during the rapid expansion of Cosham in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Houses are typically two- and three-bedroom properties with small front gardens and modest rear plots. The area has a settled, residential character with a strong community feel. Chatsworth Avenue and Courtmount Grove are among the more established residential roads in this part of Cosham. The park itself is well used by families, particularly during school holidays and summer weekends. A bowling club operates from the park, and local football teams use the pitches in the winter months.
