Drayton
Spacious residential district between Cosham and Farlington
A residential district to the east of central Cosham, sometimes considered a separate area but closely linked to Cosham by geography and transport. Drayton lies between Cosham and Farlington, bounded by the A27 to the south and Portsdown Hill to the north. The area has a mix of housing types, including substantial interwar semis along Drayton Road, postwar estates, and some newer infill. Drayton Road itself is a long, tree-lined residential street running east from Cosham towards Farlington, and it gives the area much of its character. There is a small parade of shops along Havant Road serving the local community. Drayton is generally quieter and more spacious than central Cosham, with wider streets and larger gardens. The area is well placed for access to both Cosham and Farlington, and Portsdown Hill is within walking distance to the north. King George V Playing Fields, a large public open space, lies on the boundary between Drayton and Cosham and provides sports pitches, a playground and open grass.
