Medina Road Area
Dense Victorian terraced housing with an urban, close-knit community feel
A residential neighbourhood east of the High Street, centred on Medina Road and the surrounding streets. This area is predominantly Victorian terraced housing, built during the late nineteenth century expansion of Cosham when the railway brought new residents and workers to the district. The streets are laid out in a grid pattern typical of speculative Victorian development, with neat rows of two-bedroom and three-bedroom terraces. Front doors open close to the pavement, and many properties have bay windows and small front gardens. The area has a densely packed, urban feel that is quite different from the more spacious streets further north towards Portsdown Hill. Medina Road itself runs east from the High Street and connects to the wider road network towards Drayton and Farlington. The community is mixed, with long-term residents alongside renters and first-time buyers attracted by the relatively affordable property prices and the proximity to the railway station. Corner shops and takeaways serve the local streets.
