Mixed residential and commercial corridor linking Cosham centre to Portsdown Hill

The busy corridor running north from Cosham centre towards Portsdown Hill. Northern Road is one of the main routes through the district, carrying traffic between the city and the hill. The road has a mix of residential properties, shops, takeaways and services along its length. Houses range from Victorian terraces near the centre to larger interwar semis and detached properties further north towards the hill. Northern Parade, a small shopping parade, provides local services including a newsagent, a Chinese takeaway and a hairdresser. The area bridges the gap between the flat, urban streets of central Cosham and the rising ground of Portsdown Hill. Side streets off Northern Road are generally quiet and residential, with houses dating from the 1920s and 1930s. The area is popular with families who want proximity to Cosham's shops and transport links but also value being within walking distance of the hill for exercise and fresh air. Traffic can be heavy during rush hours, particularly at the junction with the A27.
