Wayte Street Area
Mixed residential area between the High Street and the A27
The streets immediately south and west of the High Street, centred on Wayte Street, which runs from the High Street towards the A27. This area sits between the commercial centre and the main road, and its character reflects that transitional position. There is a mix of residential properties, small business premises and community facilities. Cosham Baptist Church is a well-known local landmark on Wayte Street, and the Cosham Community Centre provides a venue for local groups and events. The housing is varied, with some older terraces, a few purpose-built flats from the 1960s and 1970s, and some more recent infill development. The A27, which forms the southern boundary of this area, carries heavy traffic and separates Cosham from the districts to the south. The area is convenient for the railway station and the bus routes that run along the main road. Residents here are within a few minutes' walk of all of Cosham's main amenities, though the proximity to the A27 means traffic noise is a factor for properties on the southern edge.
