In recent years, community groups and Portsmouth City Council have worked on projects to improve Cosham's environment and strengthen its identity. Improvements to the High Street, investment in community facilities, and efforts to promote local businesses have helped to maintain Cosham's role as a functioning local centre. The district faces challenges common to many suburban high streets, including competition from out-of-town retail and online shopping, but the strong transport links and the settled residential population provide a solid foundation.
