Cosham Absorbed into Portsmouth
1920
In 1920, the boundaries of the City of Portsmouth were extended northward to include Cosham, which had previously been part of the parish of Wymering in the Fareham rural district. The boundary change reflected the reality that Cosham had become functionally part of the Portsmouth urban area. The change brought Cosham under Portsmouth Corporation's control, bringing benefits such as mains water, improved roads and eventually council housing, but it also marked the end of Cosham's administrative independence as a separate community.
