Postwar Rebuilding

1945-1960

After the war, bomb-damaged streets in Cosham were rebuilt, with new housing replacing the destroyed Victorian terraces. The rebuilding followed the utilitarian architectural standards of the period, with plain brick buildings replacing the more ornamental Victorian originals. Some of the High Street was rebuilt with new shopfronts, and gaps in the residential streets were filled with council housing and, later, private development. The postwar rebuilding changed the character of parts of Cosham, but the basic street pattern and the railway station remained as they were.
