Queen Alexandra Hospital Built
1970s-1980s
Queen Alexandra Hospital, known locally as QA, was built on a site just east of Cosham on the slopes below Portsdown Hill. The hospital opened in stages during the 1970s and 1980s and became the main acute hospital for Portsmouth and south-east Hampshire. QA provides accident and emergency services, maternity care, surgery, cancer treatment and a full range of specialist inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital is one of the largest employers in the area and its presence has a significant impact on traffic and housing demand in Cosham.
