Railway Reaches Cosham

1848

Cosham Railway Station opened in 1848 as part of the line connecting London with Portsmouth via Fareham. The arrival of the railway transformed Cosham from an isolated village into a connected settlement with direct links to the wider world. The station became a junction point where lines diverged towards Fareham and Havant, making Cosham a key node in the railway network. The railway encouraged residential growth, and Cosham began its long transformation from village to suburb.
