Buses in Cosham

Local bus routes and connections

Bus services connect Cosham with Portsmouth city centre, QA Hospital, Fareham, Portchester, Havant and other destinations across south-east Hampshire. Cosham is one of the main bus interchange points in the Portsmouth area, with several routes converging on the High Street, Havant Road and Southampton Road.

First Hampshire and Stagecoach have historically been the main bus operators serving the Cosham area. The most frequent services run between Fareham and Portsmouth along the A27 corridor, stopping in Cosham at several points. Other routes connect Cosham with QA Hospital, the housing estates to the north and west, Paulsgrove, Portchester and destinations further afield.

Bus frequencies vary by route and time of day. The main routes run every ten to twenty minutes during weekday daytime, with reduced services in the evenings, on Saturdays and on Sundays. Some routes do not operate on Sundays or bank holidays. Real-time departure information is available at some stops via electronic displays and through mobile apps.

Concessionary bus passes are available for residents of state pension age and those with qualifying disabilities, providing free travel after 9.30am on weekdays and all day at weekends. These passes are issued by Portsmouth City Council and are valid on local bus services throughout England.

Bus travel is practical for reaching QA Hospital, which is on several routes and is only a short ride from the High Street. The bus is also useful for reaching Fareham town centre for shopping, medical appointments or onward connections. For commuters heading into Portsmouth city centre, the bus provides an alternative to the train, though the train is generally faster.

Day tickets, weekly passes and multi-journey tickets are available from the operators and generally offer better value than buying single fares. The operators' apps allow mobile ticketing, which is convenient and avoids the need for cash on the bus.
