High Street
Street guide, Cosham
The main shopping street in Cosham, running north from the railway station towards Portsdown Hill. The High Street was pedestrianised in the 1990s and is lined with a mix of independent shops, charity shops, takeaways, cafes, a Boots pharmacy and everyday service providers. The architecture is a mix of Victorian and Edwardian shopfronts with postwar infill. The street is busiest on weekday mornings when shoppers and pensioners make use of the local shops. A small Wilko formerly occupied a prominent unit, and the charity shops are well stocked and well supported. Market stalls occasionally set up in the pedestrianised area. The High Street is the functional heart of Cosham and the first thing most visitors see when arriving by train.
