Portsdown Hill Road
Street guide, Cosham
The road running along the crest of Portsdown Hill, offering some of the finest views in Hampshire. From this road, the panorama stretches south across Portsmouth, the harbour, the Solent, Hayling Island and the Isle of Wight. Several pubs and restaurants occupy positions along the road, capitalising on the views. The George pub is a well-known destination perched above Cosham. Fort Widley and Fort Southwick are both accessed from Portsdown Hill Road. The road connects Cosham to Portchester and Fareham to the west and to Farlington and Bedhampton to the east. It is popular with cyclists and joggers, despite some fast-moving traffic. Lay-bys along the ridge provide informal stopping points for those wanting to take in the view.
