Upper Wymering Lane

Street guide, Cosham

A residential road in the Wymering area, running through a neighbourhood of interwar and postwar housing on the western side of Cosham. Upper Wymering Lane connects the Wymering area to the main road network and carries local traffic. The housing is a mix of semi-detached properties and some terraces, built during the interwar expansion of Portsmouth when the city corporation developed new estates on the fringes of the built-up area. The lane has a straightforward, residential character, with front gardens, on-street parking and a community feel. It is close to Wymering Manor, the oldest building in Portsmouth, and to the lower slopes of Portsdown Hill. Bus services run along or near the lane, providing connections to Cosham centre and the wider city.
